He Turned The Tables

Games like backgammon are known as ‘tables’ games.

The phrase ‘turn the tables’ derives from these games,

and the practice of reversing the board so that players play from their opponent’s position.

They get the other person’s view.

In a sense, they see with the other person’s eyes….

What Do You See?

(based on Mark 11)

Tables.

Tables on my way.

Tables in my way.

Tables heavy with money.

But I have the wrong currency.

I can’t come in

unless

I

change.

No space here for my currency of

Insecurity

Fear

Worry

Debt

Disability

No space here for my currency of

me.

No space here for

me

as

I

am

I must change at the tables.

But how?

No-one wants my currency of

Weakness

and inability

and failing

I can’t change.

Tables mocking.

Laden with change I

can’t have.

Blocking what I need…

Space for Jesus.

I can’t get in.

Tables pushed aside.

He’s there.

Jesus.

Space with Jesus.

I’m there.

He turned the tables.

At the cross,

He turned the tables.

“Look with My eyes.”

I see my

Insecurity

Fear

Worry

Debt

Disability

Welcome.

I see me welcome.

I see me welcome

Unchanged.

He takes my currency as it is,

and yet…

At the cross,

He turned the tables.

“Look with My eyes.”

I see I am loved.

I see I am safe.

I see I am known.

I see I am beautiful.

At the cross,

He turned the tables.

I’m changed at the cross.
