Some people are ideas people, some people are ‘make it happen’ people, and sometimes you come across someone who is both.
Someone like Rachel Yarworth.
Rachel had an idea.
A book based on The Jesse Tree tradition, a series of Advent readings which trace Jesus’ family tree.
And Rachel decided to make it happen.
She recruited 24 writers, who would each write a section.
Rachel herself would also write one, plus write additional sections throughout.
Rachel had the job of managing us, and keeping track of everything.
Somehow, she pulled it off.
She had infinite patience and good humour.
She encouraged, she guided, she reminded and re-reminded about deadlines…..
And The Jesse Tree Anthology was born.
A book for individuals or groups or families, of all ages.
Short accessible daily devotional readings for Advent, along with gentle prayers and discussion questions.

How many Lights of the world are there?
One, and many point to Him.
Pointing to Jesus.
That’s the concept behind the Jesse Tree, and – so too – The Jesse Tree Anthology.
In Rachel’s words to our maybe-unruly group of writers: ‘Show how your given Bible passage points us to Jesus.’
Adam, Sarai, Jacob, Esther, Jonah….all these Bible stories, and more, are included in The Jesse Tree Anthology.
All these people’s stories point to Jesus.
The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. (John 1:9)
Jesus.
Light of the World. (John 8:12)
Jesus, who had been promised.
People had waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Many lost hope, and stopped looking for the Light.
But some, whose stories you’ll share in The Jesse Tree Anthology, didn’t give up.
They didn’t stop looking.
And they give us glimpses of the Light that was coming.
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. (Isaiah 9:2)
Maybe we are walking in darkness.
There’s lots of darkness.
And still the Light is coming.
May the Light dawn ever brighter for us.
For our world.
For you.
For me.
This Advent, why not journey towards Christmas with the first Light-seekers?
Sharing with them the Hope that Jesus brings.
The Peace that Jesus brings.
The Joy that Jesus brings.
How many Lights of the world are there?
One, and many point to Him.
