Father, Forgive

The cry from the cross echoes down through the ages,

‘Father,  forgive them’.

It is a triumphant cry, for

it is a genuine cry.

Forgiveness is possible.

More than that, it is attainable.

‘Father, forgive them’.

Oh, Father of all forgiveness,

help me catch hold of that echo.

Its love,

its genuineness.

And, in doing so, realise that

I don’t have to do it alone.

The strength of every echo is

its source.

The ability to truly forgive comes from

Help me to listen to your echo.

All it means,

all it stands for.

Enable me to let it resound into my life and days.

May I never let your echo fade.

‘Father,  forgive them.’

Lord Jesus

Sometimes the hurt I feel seems unbearable.

As though my chest will explode.

No one understands.

No one, except you.

Thank you that you come to me.

Stay with me in my hurting.

And wipe away my tears.
